My Reiki Journey

In the early 1990s I was very interested in training as a Herbalist. I had studied agriculture, worked in crop research and then as a flower seed breeder, and was fascinated by plants and their medicinal qualities. I’d been living in Australia and when I returned to the UK I was thwarted at every turn. After an amazing few years experience I became the CEO of a youth charity and company in east London. After eleven years there I stepped down into semi retirement, however I quickly got itchy feet and thought again of studying to be a Herbalist.

Whilst researching on the Internet, Reiki kept popping up again and again. Following my instincts, I signed up to a training programme where I undertook the First Degree, a few months later the Second Degree and finally the Masters programme with Reiki Evolution.

On a personal level it all makes sense to me. We are all made of energy, we all produce heat, we are amazing human beings. The channelling of energy came naturally to me and I know I’ve always done it. The teaching unlocked an ability I’ve had all my life and it’s humbling to be able to share this and use this well.

Whilst I was travelling to Australia in 1990/91 I began learning how to read palms – long train rides through Africa and India provided a great amount of time for book reading, and in India in particular, every journey involved conversations about your book with everyone in the carriage chipping in. As a result I learnt a tremendous amount about palmistry which is widely used throughout the country. 

Once I started practicing reading other travellers hands, I found I was getting far more information for that person than was read in the criss-crossing lines and lengths of phalanges and over the coming years I began using cards, and worked with a small group of mediums meditating weekly, sending healing and supporting each other. I learnt a great deal about humility and gained a deeper understanding of life’s possibilities.

I moved away from giving readings to people mainly because my work got tremendously busy in London, and my instincts were to throw all my energies into that work. More recently however my psychic intuition has been coming to the fore with my Reiki healing, so I picked up the cards again and the readings flow.

I make the HeartFelt brooches and key-rings using Roving Wool, buttons, etc. Reiki is intelligent energy, it goes to where it’s needed, and I spend time when I make each item infusing them with Reiki healing energy. My partner Clive makes the Mariners’ Wristbands and these I also infuse with wonderful Reiki energy.

I have a VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology and the wonderful thing about this course was learning the principals and practice of Complementary Therapies and the knowledge I gained of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.
